RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Talk to your doctor to determine whether you can safely travel by air and what your oxygen requirements will be both in the air and during any layovers

  • Travel non stop or on direct flights whenever possible. Costs will be less and continuous oxygen delivery will be maintained

  • Make all ground arrangements with your oxygen provider as soon as possible

  • If a representative from the company providing you oxygen will meet your flight, try to arrive during normal business hours. Also have a local phone number and contact person in case he/she is not at the gate

  • Make airlines reservations as far in advance as possible

  • If you are concerned or unsure about information you have received from the reservation personnel, verify that information with the airline's medical or special services

  • Call the airlines 48 hours in advance to reconfirm your oxygen arrangements

  • Carry an oxygen prescription and all your medications with you, not in baggage

  • Before the plane leaves the gate, be sure the oxygen equipment is working and the liter flow is correct. Remember even the best-laid plans can go sideways
